HONOURING ANGELA AND WOMEN IN FOOTBALL

ANGELA MURPHY, a highly-respected administrator at Football West and football in general for 27 years, will be one of a record total of eight women who will be inducted into the Football Hall of Fame WA on November 14, 2026.

Angela, who passed away in July 2025, will be posthumously honoured at the 30th Anniversary event, which will be held at the Riverview Room at Optus Stadium.

Football West has already paid a lasting tribute to their much-loved colleague by establishing the Angela Murphy Medal, which is presented to the player of the match in the NPLWA Top Four Cup final.

Angela, who began her association with football with the Soccer Administration of WA, was Operations Support Lead with Football West and was much respected by clubs in Western Australia.

Angela’s Hall of Fame recognition will come on the night when some of the former superstars of the female game, including many who represented Australia in World Cups and Asian Cups, are also welcomed into what is the most exclusive “club” in Western Australia.

A quartet of WA players who made major impacts with the Matildas will be inducted.

The four can boast a total of nearly 280 caps between them – and 62 goals – and include one player who was Australia’s leading goalscorer for many years.

Several coaches will also be inducted, including Tanya Oxtoby who is currently coaching Newcastle in the Women’s Super League 2 in England.

WA-born Tanya played for the Perth Glory women’s team (which she also captained) for four years before taking up coaching.

She was the assistant coach of the Australian Under-20 team and later went on to be an assistant with Scotland and Chelsea before becoming the head coach of the Northern Ireland national team. She also coached several club sides in England before taking on the head coach role with Newcastle.

Apart from the female representation, this year’s 30th Anniversary gathering promises to be a memorable occasion with an overall total of 35 being embraced for inclusion into one of the four categories: the Hall of Champions, Hall of Merit, Hall of Recognition and Hall of Legends.

Adding to the excitement of the night, there will also be live entertainment and special guest speakers who will give an insight into some of the aspects of the game at all levels.

Plus, there will be the opportunity to rub shoulders with several former star players from Perth Glory’s early glorious days. And it will also be the perfect opportunity to network with many important figures from the wider WA football community.

Tickets cost $180. This will include a sumptuous meal, plus beverages, and a special collectors-item souvenir booklet. The event starts at 6 pm.
