The Football Hall of Fame WA is saddened to learn of the passing of highly-respected administrator Angela Murphy following a lengthy illness. Angela was surrounded by family when she passed away on Wednesday 23rd July.
A keen gymnast and basketballer as a youngster, Angela made her entry into the world game in early 1996 by accepting the position of receptionist with the Soccer Administration of WA. Two years later she moved to Soccer West Coast to administer the men’s semi-professional competitions, a position she held through to 2004.
Angela continued in competition management following the formation of Football West, initially looking after the men’s and women’s State Leagues and later adding amateurs, juniors, metropolitan and masters to her portfolio. After a spell as Senior Operations Support Lead Officer, she retired from football administration in 2023.
Angela considered her involvement in Matilda’s 2018 friendly against Thailand in Perth – a fixture played only two weeks out from the AFC Women’s Asia Cup – as a highlight of her time in the game. She also cherished the memory of meeting various Socceroos, including Tim Cahill, while in town for training camps.
The Football Hall of Fame WA extends its deepest condolences to Angela’s family and many friends.
