Football West foundation director and veteran broadcaster Russell Goodrick passed away following a lengthy illness on 10th May 2021. Russell, a member of the Football Hall of Fame Western Australian committee between 2005 and 2008, died following a four-month battle with a severe form of pancreatitis.
A long-time supporter of the round ball game, Russell was part of the eight-person Football West board following the governing bodies formation in 2004. His appointment came after a spell as acting President of Soccer West Coast and time with Inglewood United, where he served on the committee and was also Junior President.
Manchester-born Russell is best known in Western Australia for his media and journalism work. After starting out with Sydney-based Radio 2GB, he moved to Perth in 1974 to commence what would become a 33-year association with Channel 9 where he was the number one newsreader from 1979 to 1985 and, in 1983, won a coveted Logie Award.
Russell set-up MRG International in 1986 as an independent marketing, promotions and public relations company and a decade later expanded the company’s profile to include television production. Across 45 years in the public eye he produced and hosted more than 1,000 television programs and documentaries.
